If you're more interested in family attractions then why not try out the fantastic Thai themed water park, Siam Park. Situated near Adeje, the park is easy to get to from most holiday spots on the island and is a cracking day trip for all the family with a wide range of slides for all ages and water-based thrills that will please all. The kids may also be interested in the Parrot Park of Puerto de la Cruz. With its huge range of exotic birds and exciting shows with trickster parrots, you'll be able to sit back and relax as the whole family takes delight in observing these fascinating birds.


Tenerife is also a haven for divers with many excellent dive centres located in the island's main towns. The best centres lie in the coastal town of Arona. In particular, Scubayaci has a great reputation for bringing along novices who lack confidence but would like to gain basic diving skills. 


If you'd prefer to stay above the waves, why not take to one of Tenerife's many surf schools and learn to harness the power of the Tenerife's renowned seas! You'll find yourself standing atop a board in no time and will be able to impress friends back home with your new found ability (as well as that all important tan).

The Canary Islands - An overview

The Canary islands, or Canaries, is the name for an archipelago of Spanish islands located near the tip of Morocco. Boasting seven contrasting islands, each of the Canaries has a its own special character, giving you an array of holidaying options that many other destinations can not.

You will certainly recognise the names of some of the Canary islands. Big-hitters Lanzarote and Tenerife are both located here, along with Gran Canaria and Fuerteventura but you'll also find lesser known Canary islands such as El Hierro and La Palma which are quieter and perhaps the more suitable option for those looking for a destination where they can really immerse themselves in relaxation.

As a general rule, you should head to the bigger tourist orientated islands if you are looking for an all-action Canary island holiday with plenty of night life and world class budget resorts. The smaller islands will provide you with a little more intimacy and usually provide the best all-inclusive and luxury options - La Palma in particular is a great choice for those looking for a luxury holiday experience with its understated beauty and cosmopolitan ambience and is perfect for those who enjoy exploring nature.

Lanzarote and Tenerife are the best options for those looking for a cheap holiday with plenty to do and an abundant nightlife mixed with great landscapes and volcanic activity that should certainly be sampled before you leave. Fuerteventura, on the other hand, is the best pick for those looking to keep themselves active on their Canary island holiday. As one of the windsurfing capitals of Europe, you'll find plenty of time to take in some of the spectacular windsurfing on display and indulge your wild side with expert tuition. If windsurfing doesn't appeal, you could venture under the water instead with diving lessons from fully qualified PADI dive instructors.

Family holidays in Tenerife

We've already looked at how Tenerife is a fantastic destination for those looking for somewhere to party, but it's also a wonderful destination to take your kids and family for a great holiday where sun and fun are top of the agenda.

Playa De las Americas is the liveliest part of the island and despite its party atmosphere it is also a great place for families. The area comes alive in the night time and is packed full of karaoke and cabaret shows that will appeal to all and during the day, the beautiful beach attracts plenty of holiday makers and is fantastic for lazy days and water sport enthusiasts. Accommodation options are easy to come by here and perfect for those families on a budget. You will also find plenty of fantastic family amusements just outside of town with Siam park waterpark nearby and the Aqualand marine park featuring performances from penguins and seals!

Los Cristianos is also a wonderful place for a family holiday. With two sweeping beaches lined with a picturesque promenade and palm trees the area is fantastic for relaxation as well as a delightful seaside stroll. For the kids there is plenty to do. A trip to the famous Tenerife zoo and monkey park should certainly be on the top of your list and among the first attractions you should visit. If you're looking for something to do in the night that avoids the busy strip of clubs and bars, you should certainly head up to Los Cristianos' castle - Castillo San Miguel. At night, the castle and its visitors are transported back to medieval times and treated to amateur dramatics from a multitude of performers plying there trade as knights, jesters and villains who are all at the castle to put on a great show whilst guiding you around this wonderful building and detailing its history.

For a family Tenerife holiday that is a little quieter, try out the north of the island and the classic Tenerife resort of Puerto De La Cruz. This resort is one of Tenerife's oldest, but don't let that put you off! Puerto draws in millions of visitors every year and has a growing base of repeat bookers who head back here year after year because thy know what they're going to get - great family entertainments, a town centre that has it all and a beach that is more than capable of keeping you entertained throughout the day.

Clubbing holidays in Tenerife

For a cheap, last minute holiday that offers you a fantastic array of night-life options you would be hard pressed to find a better European option than Tenerife.


As part of the Canary Islands, Tenerife boasts sun all year-round and has an abundance of luscious green landscapes and all important sandy beaches that come complete with crystal clear seas. The interior of the island is dominated by rocky, volcanic sights providing a startling geographical contrast to the outskirts of the island.

For those of you looking for the liveliest resorts on your holiday in Tenerife, head to the South of the island for the likes of hard-partying Playa de Las Americas. Here you will find an abundance of cheaply priced bars and clubs offering cocktails that are perfect for cheap holiday thrills. Similarly, Los Cristianos is a part of the island that offers a party atmosphere with plenty of clubbing options.

If you are staying in Playa de Las Americas, head to the central strip, or the 'Veronicas', where you'll find the busiest bars and clubs and be treated to tunes being played by famous guest DJs. Playa de las Americas is also home to exciting go-kart tracks and the awesome new Thai themed water park, Siam park - the perfect place for soaking up the sun whilst enjoying yourself to the max!

Los Cristianos is a slightly smaller resort but does offer a range of Irish pubs and traditional Spanish tapas bars that may suit those looking for something a little different to the all-action approach of Playa de Las Americas. There is also a range of cuisines on offer that are sure to appeal to everyone in your group. The beach of Los Cristianos is 'Playa de Las Vista' and is known as one of Tenerife's finest with its golden sands and warm, shallow waters - perfect for a spot of people watching!
