Skiing in Slovenia

T
he weather has got a lot colder here in the UK, and snow could even be on its way, but one good thing about snow – it makes you think of going skiing! If you have the idea that skiing holidays are only for well-heeled, expert skiers, then think again, and take a look at Slovenia which offers great skiing holidays in the most utterly beautiful locations, at prices that are very affordable, and with plenty of runs for the beginner and intermediate skier. The après-ski is also laid back and inexpensive.

If you go to the picturesque resort of Bled with its beautiful lake surrounded by mountains, you can combine skiing with visiting one of Slovenia’s top tourist spots. You can take a boat to the lake’s fairytale island topped with a pretty church where you can ring a wishing bell.

The skiing around Bled is well suited to beginners and intermediates. The atmosphere in Bled is quiet and relaxed, and the nightlife tends towards relaxing rather than noisy.

The main ski resort in Slovenia is Kranjska Gora set in a beautiful valley, which offers skiing that is good for beginners, as well as some more challenging runs for the more advanced skiers. There is some lively après-ski here, with nightclubs and casinos, where you can truly chill out after a hard day on the piste.

In the Julian Alps there is the unspoilt ski resort of Bohinj on Slovenia’s largest lake, Lake Bohinj, and it is the small villages around the lake which make up the resort. The skiing here is mainly beginners and intermediate, and it is a great resort for families. The après-ski here is fairly quiet, but there are one or two good bars.

So if you like the sound of skiing in Slovenia for its beautiful surroundings and low cost, there are definitely some good ski holidays deals around at the moment, and it could be just worth taking a look before the rush!
